A 98-year-old war veteran with a long-standing lung condition has been discharged from hospital after surviving coronavirus.

Douglas Moore, who served in the 8th Army as a signaller during the Second World War, has been given the all clear after spending six days in hospital with the disease.

He was diagnosed after being admitted to Kettering General Hospital with a high temperature and a cough on April 15 following a fall.

Mr Moore, from Northamptonshire, said he felt “very special” after nurses gave him a round of applause as he left the ward. “They were very good to me in hospital and I felt very special when they gave me a clap and a cheer when I left today," he said on Wednesday. “I think they are all absolutely wonderful and the
