Diabetes and long Covid: Interestingly, according to three studies, diabetes patients were up to four times more likely to develop long Covid compared to people without diabetes, as per a presentation conducted on Sunday at the annual Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association.  Additionally, the researchers noted that diabetes appears to be "a potent risk factor" for long Covid but their findings are preliminary because the studies used different methods, definitions of long Covid, and follow-up times, and some looked at hospitalized patients while others focused on people with milder cases of Covid-19. However, it is worth noting that the researchers have said that more high-quality studies across multiple populations and settings are needed to determine if diabetes is indeed a risk factor" for long Covid.

UPPER DARBY, Pa. - Authorities in Delaware County on Thursday asked the public's help in solving a 2014 cold case about a missing mother who seemingly disappeared without a trace.Amanda DeGuio disappeared when she was 24-years-old. DeGuio was last seen at her home in Upper Darby on June 3, 2014. She left without her cell phone, credit cards, or a change of clothes. She doesn’t drive and no one knows how she left.The Upper Darby Police Department, joined by DeGuio's family, held a press conference Thursday with no update on their search.

CAMDEN, N.J. - A New Jersey man admitted Thursday he illegally sold unregistered pesticides as a COVID-19 defense to government and municipal entities including the U.S. Marshals Service and the Department of Veterans Affairs.Paul Andrecola pleaded guilty in federal court in Camden to one count each of wire fraud, selling an unregistered pesticide and presenting false claims.According to a criminal complaint, the 63-year-old Burlington County man made and sold pesticides that weren’t registered with the EPA as required, and weren’t on the EPA’s list of products deemed to be effective disinfectants against COVID-19.Andrecola and others put another company’s EPA registration numbers on his products to hide the fact that they weren't registered, according to the complaint.Federal authorities alleged Andrecola made 150 sales of the unregistered pesticides between March 2020 and May 2021 and made more than $2.7 million.

SKYFOX over storm damage in Blackwood, New Jersey as the NWS investigates the possibility of a tornado hitting the area during morning storms.  BLACKWOOD, N.J. - Officials have confirmed that an tornado touched down in Gloucester Township, New Jersey early Thursday morning as a line of powerful storms swept through the area. A National Weather Service (NWS) survey team was dispatched to the Blackwood section of the township to survey damage left behind in the storm. Thursday afternoon, NWS officials confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down around 5 a.m. with estimated peak winds of up to 90 miles per hour. The strong winds damaged some homes in the area, including one that was struck by a falling tree.

(Photo by Robert Alexander/Getty Images) NEW YORK - A newly published study found that COVID-19 was the leading cause of duty-related deaths among law enforcement officers in the United States in 2020. According to the data obtained from the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund database for the year 2020, COVID-19 deaths accounted for 62% of the 295 duty-related law enforcement officer deaths.The study, published in "Policing: An International Journal," also found that 82% of deaths were among Black members of law enforcement and 77% of deaths were among Latinx officers — far higher than the 48% of deaths among White police officers.The database contained deaths designated as those caused by incidents that occurred while in the line of duty.To compute the rate of death, researchers from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) also obtained data on the total number of law enforcement officers employed in the U.S.

MILLCREEK, Utah - A Utah woman and the son she put up for adoption more than 20 years ago have been reunited — and it turns out they have more in common than shared genes.According to KSTU, Holly Shearer put her son up for adoption when she became pregnant at 15 years old. Mysterious figure spotted in Amarillo Zoo (Photo courtesy of City of Amarillo) AMARILLO, Texas - An unidentified figure was caught on camera in Amarillo around the zoo and city officials are asking residents to give their best guess on what it might be. According to the City of Amarillo, the figure was spotted around 1:25 a.m. on May 21 outside the zoo and for now, is referred to as an Unidentified Amarillo Object (UAO). "Was it a person with a strange hat who likes to walk at night?" the city asked.

PHILADELPHIA - Two individuals taken into custody in connection with Saturday's deadly mass shooting on South Street will be facing murder charges, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced Thursday. This comes one day after officials released photos of two males who were identified as the third and fourth suspects in the shooting that left three people dead and nearly a dozen wounded on the popular Philadelphia street. Krasner identified the two suspects as Quadir Dukes-Hill, 18 and Nahjee Whittington, 18. Both were taken into custody by U.S. Marshalls in Virginia, according to Krasner. Officials say Dukes-Hill is facing murder charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Alexis Quinn, 27. According to Krasner, Whittington was just four days shy of his 18th birthday when he allegedly fired the shot that fatally struck Kristopher Minners, 22, and injured another man. Joanne Pescatore, the head of the DAO's Homicide Unit, said the department received several tips after posting photos of the suspects with a reward for information. Dukes-Hill and Whittington will be charged in adult court after a hearing in Virginia to extradite them back to Philadelphia. Pescatore says investigators believe the suspects are friends because they were seen wearing hoodies with the same logo and they are believed to have traveled to Virginia together. Two other suspects, Quran Garner and Rashaan Vereen, were taken into custody by authorities on Monday and they face several charges related to the shooting. Police believe the shooting stemmed from a fist fight between three men that escalated into a shootout.

SKYFOX over a home in Northampton where authorities are investigating after two adults were found dead.  NORTHAMPTON, Pa. - Police have launched a death investigation in Northampton after one person was found dead and another injured on Wednesday. According to authorities, police responded to a home in the area around 5 p.m. for a report of a man who was possibly displaying suicidal behaviors. Police say officers entered the home and found an adult woman dead and an adult man with injuries to the head. Officials did not specify the type of head wound or how it was caused.

DAVIS, Calif. - A dog credited with defending her owner from a mountain lion attack last month in Northern California unexpectedly died Wednesday.Eva, a 2½-year-old Belgian Malinois, began having seizures last weekend at home in Trinity County, her owner, Erin Wilson told The Sacramento Bee.The dog was taken to the animal hospital at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, but her condition deteriorated."She just never woke up," Wilson told the newspaper.In mid-May, Wilson, 24, was walking along the Trinity River with Eva a few yards ahead when a mountain lion lunged and scratched Wilson."I yelled ‘Eva!’ and she came running," Wilson said in a subsequent interview. "And she hit that cat really hard."Eva and the mountain lion fought briefly until the cougar clamped its jaws on Eva’s head.

PHILADELPHIA - Family and friends gather Wednesday to remember Alexis Quinn, a 22-year-old woman killed in the crossfire of a mass shooting last weekend on South Street. Quinn's mother, Tina, attended the memorial that included a balloon release. Loved ones say Quinn was a home health aid who loved to help others. "She was a good girl, you know, always helping people," Tina Quinn said.
