© Provided by The Guardian Photograph: Pilar Olivares/Reuters Brazil has overtaken Britain as the country with the world’s second-highest Covid-19 death toll after its total rose to more than 42,000.On Friday evening the National Council of Health Secretaries said it had recorded another 1,242 fatalities, taking the South American country’s tally to 42,161.According to the British government, 41,481 lives have been lost in the UK since late January although the number rises to more than 50,000 when suspected cases are included.
