British Airways says majority of flights will return in July at the earliest

British Airways said it hopes to restart the majority of flights in July, despite plans to axe a quarter of pilots. In a series of cost-cutting measures, bosses tentatively said flights could resume at 50% capacity by July but added the group was burning through cash and does not expect to return to full capacity until 2023.

The move also involves and Aer Lingus, which is also owned by International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG). It said any decision to return to full or part capacity will be subject to lockdown measures - and when measures are eased.

The company said Covid-19 was having a "devastating impact on the global airline and travel sectors, with the spread of the virus worldwide, resulting in lockdowns and travel restrictions
