The number of people killed by the coronavirus pandemic crossed the 100-mark in India on Monday, with the majority of infections and deaths recorded among men.
Monday’s fresh cases at 622 was the highest single-day figure so far, pushing up countrywide infections to 4,562. Active cases now stand at 4,066, with 374 recoveries so far.
The toll reached 122, with the number of deaths in Maharashtra crossing 50. The state topped the chart for disease burden in the country, recording as many as 120 new cases and seven more deaths. “Out of total covid-19 cases in India, 1,445 cases are related to Tablighi Jamaat," said Lav Agarwal, joint secretary, ministry of health and family welfare.
