COVID-19 booster shot for children ages 5 to 11, a group that is only about 30% vaccinated so far. Earlier this week, the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration authorized the booster doses, made by Pfizer-BioNTech, for healthy, elementary-age kids. The extra shots are recommended at least five months after a child’s last vaccine dose.
But the CDC must still decide whether to formally recommend the booster for this age group, and Thursday’s meeting and vote by the agency’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is part of that process. The panel is scheduled to meet beginning at 11 a.m.
ET and the meeting will be livestreamed here. The ACIP could vote to recommend making boosters available for all elementary-age children, or just some portion of that particular age group.
