After an unexpectedly long winter break, students in Shanghai are finally returning to class. Schools across China closed in January and February as the country grappled with coronavirus before it spread to the rest of the world.
Now, as the government claims to have the epidemic under control with less than 1,000 active cases, educational facilities are gradually reopening.
All schools in Shanghai were closed in January in an extended winter break, and the semester wasn't resumed until March 2 when students began taking online classes.
Today students in the equivalent of Year 9 and 12 became the first in Shanghai to step back into their classrooms, more than 100 days after leaving them for the winter break in December.
