With coronavirus cases in the UK now in the thousands, scientists are desperately searching for a treatment for the deadly bug.

While early studies suggested that HIV treatments could be effective against COVID-19, a new study suggests that this isn’t the case after all.

Researchers in Wuhan have tested the effects of two HIV drugs called lopinavir and ritonavir on patients with coronavirus, with ‘disappointing’ results.

In the study, the researchers tested the treatment on 99 coronavirus patients, and compared their results to 100 coronavirus patients who did not receive the treatment.
