Supermarket giant Tesco has introduced a strict limit of 80 items per online order for shoppers in a bid to increase the number of delivery slots available for customers as it tackles coronavirus demand.
A spokesman for the chain said it urges people “who are able to do so” to come into stores “instead of shopping online". Bosses hope the move will “free up more slots for the more vulnerable” who may not be able to leave their home.
Tesco said it is looking at “every opportunity” to increase “the number of slots available” and has introduce a 20,000 job recruitment drive.
Despite the recruitment efforts, Britain’s leading grocers is now introducing a limit of “80 items per online order” to “get more order on to each van".
