Thousands of unpaid carers in Greater Manchester are facing "immense pressure" in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. Charities are calling on the government to offer extra support to unpaid carers, who say they have been forgotten during the crisis.

There are around 274,000 people across the region who are caring for children or a family member with disabilities, illnesses, a mental health problem or addiction.

Around 11,440 of those people spend more than 50 hours on full-time care a week, while also working a full-time job. Charities have warned that the ongoing pandemic is putting a further strain on those looking after sick or vulnerable loved ones.
