Two men licked their hands before wiping them on food products at a supermarket in an incident described as "utterly despicable" by police.

As the coronavirus pandemic rages on, the pair allegedly smeared saliva over meat, fresh produce and fridge handles. CCTV shots of two men police would like to speak to have been released, with anyone who recognises them asked to come forward.

Fatalities surged to 7,172 after 936 people died in the space of 24 hours -  making yesterday the country's deadliest day yet in the crisis.
