A couple didn’t want the coronavirus pandemic to postpone their big day. Determined to tie the knot, Joe and Alana Dunn ditched their plans to invite 100 guests to share the occasion.
Instead of wedding in April, they said their vows in front of the vicar and two witnesses on March 23. The Crewe-based pair had been at work in the morning, with both of them having roles as teaching assistants.
They sent a text to their vicar Reverend Mike Turnbull to see what he thought – and he replied that they could marry at 4pm that afternoon.
It turned out to be a wise decision, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson announcing a nationwide lockdown in a speech that evening.
