NEW DELHI : The Supreme court on Monday asked the Centre to file a status report on steps being taken in view of the large-scale migration of labourers from cities to their native villages, even as a nationwide lockdown has been imposed to stem the spread of coronavirus (covid-19).
A bench presided by Chief Justice SA Bobde and comprising justice Nageshwar Rao heard the plea on the issue of migration of labourers through video-conferencing.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, said the migration of labourers needs to be stopped to prevent the spread of the virus.
