Banking wasn’t his career of choice. He would rather have joined the Indian Air Force. Fighter jets were what attracted him, and it would have also offered him a chance to serve the nation.

More than three decades later, Wadhwa did partially fulfil his dream of serving the nation, working relentlessly to keep the wheels of the economy turning even as the rest of the nation confined themselves to the relative safety of their homes amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Born and brought up in Ludhiana, Wadhwa, 55, holds a key portfolio as the head of a loan processing unit at the bank in New Delhi.
