A dad has avoided jail after grabbing his partner by the throat and punching her during a family caravan holiday - because he thought she was speaking to her mum too much.

Patrick Heaney, 37, had gone away with his partner of six months and her six-year-old daughter, along with the rest of her family, just days before the violent incident.

One evening, the couple broke into an argument after Heaney, of Levenshulme, complained that she was speaking on the phone to her mum more than spending time with her daughter, Manchester Crown Court heard.
