David Beckham shares fears for son Brooklyn as he opens up on mental health battle
David Beckham has opened up about his mental health battles and fears for the wellbeing of his first-born son, Brooklyn.The football legend has shared an insight into his remarkable career and marriage to Victoria in a new tell-all docu-series on Netflix.
The 48-year-old candidly discussed the effects of being thrust into the limelight, revealing that he was diagnosed with depression.
Reflecting on the abuse he received after being blamed for England's World Cup 1998 defeat following a red card, David confessed that the experience 'broke him.' After landing back in the UK to angry fans and negative press, the sports star 'struggled to eat or sleep' and was diagnosed with clinical depression.The couple also revealed fears for son, Brooklyn as they faced 'kidnapping and death threats.' Opening up about the experience, David said: "I don't think I've ever talked about it because I can't.
I find it hard to talk about what I went through because it was so extreme.The whole country hated me." David continued: "Wherever I went, I got abused every day.To walk down the street and see people look at you a certain way, spit at you, abuse you, come up to your face and say some of the things that they said, that's difficult.
