Delta, the most dominant variant of Covid-19 found in over 99% samples in Delhi in October

Indian Sars-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) was set up early this year. As reported earlier, the Delta variant of Covid-19 out-completed the earlier dominant Alpha variant within weeks which was the major reason for a deadly second wave in the national capital.

In April and May, the city battled a brutal second wave of the pandemic that claimed a massive number of lives and led to a shortage of oxygen and essential drugs at hospitals.

Delta variant was found in 54% of the samples that were sequenced in April, and 82% in May, according to the government data according to a report by Hindustan Times.
