A Philadelphia councilmember is now working to get the masks banned in the city.  PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia Councilmember has introduced legislation banning ski masks throughout the city. Councilmember Anthony Phillips, who represents the 9th District, introduced the legislation on Thursday. According to officials, if it passes, the bill would prohibit people from wearing skis masks in schools, recreation centers, daycares, parks, city-owned buildings, or on any mode of transportation. If approved, breaking the ban would result in a $250 penalty. The bill would also impose a $2,000 fine for those wearing ski masks while committing a crime, officials say. Exceptions will be made for various circumstances, including wearing ski masks or balaclavas for traditional holiday costumes, religious holidays, employment, theatrical productions, or winter sports. "Neighbors consistently ask me when Council will ban ski masks and, while going out in the community to get feedback on this issue, the common thread was that residents want a ban," Phillips said.

PHILADELPHIA - A rideshare driver on route taking a passenger through North Philadelphia was shot and severely injured on Wednesday night, authorities say. According to police, the incident happened just after 11 p.m. in the area of Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue. Officials say when officers arrived on scene, they saw the vehicle, a Honda CRV, that jumped the curb and struck a utility pole. A 34-year-old driver was slumped in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound to the head, law enforcement officials said. Police investigate scene of crash involving rideshare driver shot in the area of Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue.  MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe driver was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he is in extremely critical condition, according to authorities. Chief Inspector Scott Small told FOX 29 the rideshare driver was going westbound on the 1300 block of Lehigh Avenue after picking up an 18-year-old female passenger a few blocks away. Officials say the passenger told detectives she heard about five or six gunshots before the vehicle's windshield broke, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, jump the curb and crash. According to investigators, at least one bullet went through the driver's rear headrest. Small says the passenger is extremely lucky she was not also struck by gunfire. Police say six spent shell casings were discovered on scene. Investigators do not know if the rideshare driver was targeted or was struck by stray gunfire, Small says. Police are investigating after a rideshare driver was shot while driving as passenger in North Philadelphia, authorities say.

PHILADELPHIA - Four students at Philadelphia High School for Girls claim they were denied their diplomas on stage at graduation after their expressions of excitement drew reactions from the audience.Hafsah Abdur Rahman danced across the stage at the Kimmel Center when she heard her name called during last Friday's graduation ceremony, only to be denied her diploma by the principal. "I was really embarrassed, I didn't think she was not going to give me my diploma because I didn't think I broke any rules," Hafsah said. The graduates families were told not to cheer and hold their applause until the end of the ceremony. SYRACUSE, N.Y. - A 22-year-old woman in upstate New York was killed in a hit-and-run by an alleged drunk driver, who she had previously refused to ride with, according to authorities. Madison Faltisco, 22, was walking along Route 57 in the town of Clay, a suburb of Syracuse, on the evening of June 8 when she was struck and killed by a vehicle, allegedly driven by a 23-year-old Joshua Schiano, according to Onondaga County Sheriff’s spokesperson Thomas Newton.Schiano has been charged with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident, court records show. The grim details of the case unfolded hours after Faltisco was struck. Faltisco and Schiano were co-workers at Smokey Bone's in Clay, according to Newton. The two were at a local bar and Faltisco’s friends told detectives that she had earlier refused a ride from Schiano, according to officials.Around 10:40 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities are searching for a group of young men who they say have stolen several rental cars off the lots of major car rental companies at Philadelphia International Airport. Investigators say the pattern of thefts began in January, when groups of two-to-six people would sneak onto the rental car lots that are often protected by fences, gates, or barriers. Police believe the suspects have several methods of stealing the rental cars, including simply using the keys that were left inside the vehicles by some of the car rental companies.When the rental companies enhanced their security due to the thefts, police say group restored to threatening the parking lot attendant at gunpoint to open the exit gate. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESA video shared by the Philadelphia Police Department shows several vehicles lined up at the exit booth, when the driver of the first vehicle demands the gate to be opened at gunpoint.Four vehicles are seen on video driving through the open gate. PHILADELPHIA - Medical experts are raising awareness about sudden cardiac arrest in children and teens, and emphasizing the importance of knowing life-saving CPR. Researchers at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) estimate that 23,000 kids a year suffer from sudden cardiac arrest. "These events happen on fields, during basketball games, they are sudden and devastating events that can lead to children dying," CHOP Cardiologist Maryam Naim said. Anthony Patricelli was 5-years-old when his heart suddenly stopped while he was at his sister's soccer game last May. Luckily, Anthony's mother, Sheryl Grell, is a nurse and sprung into action."5-years-old, who would have thought my son would have collapsed in cardiac arrest," Sheryl said.

WILMINGTON, Del. - Two Wilmington, Delaware, teenagers have been arrested and charged after a police chase involving a stolen car, authorities say. According to Delaware State Police, on Tuesday morning before 1:30 a.m., troopers saw a silver 2022 Toyota Highlander with Florida plates enter the parking lot of the Budget Inn on Memorial Drive in New Castle. Officials say the car was reported stolen out of the Wilmington area. Troopers saw the stolen car leave the parking lot of the Budget Inn before traveling westbound on Memorial Drive, authorities say. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to officials, the vehicle did not stop when a trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The car continued toward Rt. 13, where it traveled northbound and lost control, striking a fence on South Heald Street, police say. Two juveniles got out of the car in an attempt to flee but were quickly taken into custody, the agency says. The driver of the stolen car was identified as a 14-year-old and was charged with disregarding a police officer signal, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, reckless driving, driving without a license and related charges, according to authorities.
