PHILADELPHIA - Family members of a Philadelphia father and son who police say were killed in a drive-by shooting last weekend gathered to share memories and demand answers. "You can't believe this is actually happening," said Karaina Beckett. "No parent should be burying their child, that's how we feel, and it's a senseless crime."Investigators say Jerry Parks and his 10-year-old son Jamel were pulling into a parking spot on the 2100 block of Carver Street Sunday night when at least two shooters inside an SUV unloaded 13 shots.

Jerry and Jamel were both struck several times by gunfire and died at different hospitals, police said. Investigators believe the shooter knowingly targeted Jerry, but they did not share a motive for the shooting."Life is precious, I don't understand now why you can take it away without a second thought or any remorse," said Beckett.

The family held a balloon release in Jerry and Jamel's honor on Monday. The double homicide of a father and his young son is perhaps the most disturbing murder of violent Memorial Day weekend in Philadelphia.

Authorities say over a dozen people were killed, which pushed Philadelphia past the grim milestone of 200 homicides this year.

Police: Off-duty corrections officer carjacked at gunpoint, shoots at alleged carjacker in North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating after an off-duty corrections officer was carjacked at gunpoint and shot at the alleged carjacker in North Philadelphia on Monday night. According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, officers with the 25th District received a 911 call for a robbery and gunshots on the 200 block of E Roosevelt Boulevard around 11 p.m. When officers arrived on location, they were met by an off-duty corrections officer, 59, who said he was leaving a friend's house and getting into his Toyota Avalon when he was approached by a man with a gun who pulled him out of the car, police say. According to authorities, the alleged carjacker got into the driver's seat of the car and began to drive away as the off-duty corrections officer fired five shots at the suspect and the car. The suspect sped off in the car and officers located it about 25 minutes later on the 4900 block of Bingham Street, officials say. Small says the vehicle was found with five bullet holes in it and fresh blood inside the car. Authorities say officers were also notified that a 21-year-old shooting victim with a gunshot wound in each arm showed up for treatment at Temple Hospital. Small says there is a possibility that the shooting victim may be the alleged carjacker and authorities are investigating. According to police, the off-duty officer said the suspect was wearing a surgical mask and a hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head.

(Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images) A Staten Island grocery store worker was arrested after he allegedly slapped former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani on the back at the store and then cussed him out.According to the NYPD, the 39-year-old suspect, a worker at the store, approached Giuliani from behind and slapped him on the back at a ShopRite in the Charleston section of Staten Island around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.Video obtained by the New York Post shows Giuliani standing among a small circle of people with his back turned to the surveillance camera.
