A teenage girl was taken into care after both of her NHS worker parents were struck down by coronavirus. Carmina Medel, 14, lost mum Leilani, 41, to the disease on Friday – while dad Johnny, 39, is fighting for his life in intensive care.
Social services were forced to find Carmina a temporary home after her only UK relative was forced into self-isolation with coronavirus symptoms.
Leilani died at Bridgend’s Princess of Wales hospital, where she worked as a nurse. Medical technician Johnny is meanwhile in a critical condition on an intensive care ward.
