More than 1,000 people have now died in Greater Manchester's hospitals after contracting coronavirus. The latest NHS England data shows that a further 111 deaths had been recorded at Greater Manchester's hospitals since Monday, bringing the total number of deaths in our region to 1,008.
This is the highest daily increase announced for the number of deaths within 24 hours so far for our region. NHS England figures released on Tuesday (April 21) show that another 172 people had died after contracting COVID-19 in the North West, compared to 132 in London.
This is the second day in a row where the region has reported more deaths than the capital. These figures broadly suggest that the while the capital may have begun moving past its peak, we
