A hospital worker has claimed members of the public have been stealing vital personal protective equipment from wards - leaving NHS staff desperately short of masks and gloves.
In an emotional open letter about the ongoing PPE crisis, the worker said the situation at Wythenshaw Hospital has reached "critical" over the past few days.
It comes after Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham said the distribution of protective equipment is getting "bogged down by bureaucracy." Half a million surgical masks destined for Greater Manchester have been held up at Heathrow Airport since last Thursday, he revealed.
The worker claims staff are having to "scavenge" around hospital departments looking for protective gear after surgical masks have run out,
