PHILADELPHIA - A man getting off a SEPTA bus was attempting to cross the street when he was struck by a car, leaving him in critical condition Friday night.Police say the 33-year-old victim stepped off a SEPTA bus at Germantown Ave and Butler Street in Nicetown around 7:30 p.m.When the man tried to cross the street in front of the bus, police say a car drove around the bus and hit him. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.MORE HEADLINES:The driver of the vehicle, a 78-year-old man, stayed on scene and is said to be cooperating with police.

PHILADELPHIA - Gun violence continues to plague the streets of Philadelphia, becoming more frequent and senseless over time. However, the District Attorney's Office is making a shift, trying to bring the focus back to community solutions."I should say, be available to answer some questions about the homicide death of the 14-year-old, which occurred over the weekend," DA Larry Krasner said during a recent weekly gun violence press conference.Instead, the Philadelphia official took the opportunity to address the most common complaint from community groups out on the street doing the work to combat violence."There will be more forfeiture money distributed within a few weeks, and we want to make sure that every nonprofit organization in Philadelphia is aware of this and understands the details of how they can apply," Krasner said.These groups say they need help, but they are too busy trying to save lives to apply for grants or raise money.The DA’s office says they can provide directly to the neighborhoods that need it the most using seized drug forfeiture funds."We try to take the money that came from a particular zip code and put that money back into the zip code because we do not think that drug dealers and other people who engage in criminal activity should be tearing apart that neighborhood," Krasner says.

PHILADELPHIA - A single-car crash claimed the life of a man police say was ejected from his vehicle onto Broad Street early Saturday morning.The deadly crash unfolded on Broad and Lehigh streets around 3:30 a.m.Responding officers found a 29-year-old man in the street. He succumbed to his injuries after being ejected from what appeared to be a red pickup truck.MORE HEADLINES:Details surrounding the crash are unknown at this time, but the truck suffered severe damage to its front and back with debris scattered across the street.Broad Street was closed for about two hours as crews investigated and cleared the scene, but has since reopened.

STRAWBERRY MANSION - A man was stabbed in the neck and killed during what police say was a domestic incident in Strawberry Mansion.22nd District officers responded to the 2500 block of North 30th Street Friday evening, just after 6:30, on the report of a stabbing, officials said.The 44-year-old man was stabbed one time in the neck, according to authorities, as a domestic situation escalated.Police rushed the man to Temple University Hospital where he died a short time later.Police are actively investigating the incident. REDMOND, Wash. - Three people are dead after a suspected stalker broke into a Redmond, Washington home and killed a podcaster and her husband, police said. The woman's mother survived the attack, escaped and called 911.The shooting happened at a home on 166th Street Northeast and Northeast 89th Street before 2:00 a.m.

PHILADELPHIA - An off-duty FBI agent who fatally shot a dog during an altercation on a Philadelphia sidewalk last month will not face criminal charges, officials confirmed on Friday. The incident happened on the 1500 block of Spruce Street in Center City, in front of the Touraine apartment building, around 8 p.m. The FBI's Philadelphia Office stated in a tweet on the night of the shooting that initial information they received stated that an FBI Special Agent shot and wounded an aggressive dog and no one else was hurt. MORE HEADLINES: "The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously," the tweet read.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a two-car crash that left one driver dead and another injured on Thursday evening. According to police, the crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on the 12800 block of Knights Road in the Northeast Philadelphia section of the city. Authorities say a 24-year-old man was traveling in a car moving at a high rate of speed when the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a pickup truck. Police say the person in the pickup truck was injured and the 24-year-old did not survive. This is a developing story.

GRAYS FERRY - A 38-year-old man has died after someone opened fire and shot him multiple times on a street in Grays Ferry.The shooting happened Thursday evening, just after 5:30, on the 1500 block of South Dover Street, according to officials.17th District officers responded to the report of a shooting and found the victim in the street, suffering with multiple gunshot wounds across his body.They rushed him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he died a short time after he arrived.Police are actively investigating the shooting death. COMPTON, Calif. - A reckless DUI suspect who was seen huffing a balloon while leading officers on a pursuit through a Compton neighborhood Thursday is refusing to surrender and remains in a standoff with authorities.Right now the suspect is apparently inhaling nitrous from a bottle as he vapes an unknown substance in the driver's seat.Officials have been deploying pepper balls in the vicinity of the truck, breaking a portion of the back window, in an attempt to get the driver out of the white pickup truck but have not yet been successful.LA County Sheriff's deputies began to pursue the driver because of reckless driving and suspected DUI.Earlier, the driver crossed a center divider and struck at least one patrol car. The driver was somehow able to evade at least three PIT maneuvers.The pursuit came to a stop around 1 p.m.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating allegations of two so-called “police stations” in Quebec that are suspected to be operated by Chinese government officials.The RCMP confirmed by email Thursday morning an open investigation by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team in the province into the two alleged outposts: one in Montreal and another in Brossard, a suburb on the city’s south shore.The police force added it’s possible that Chinese Canadians “have been victims of the possible activities conducted by these centres” and that any form of “intimidation, harassment and harmful of diaspora communities or individuals in Canada will not be tolerated.” Read more: At least one Chinese ‘secret police station’ based in Vancouver, civil rights group says “We are carrying out police actions aimed at detecting and disrupting these foreign state-backed criminal activities, which may threaten the safety of persons living in Canada,” the RCMP said in a statement.The Mounties have also created a phone line to report any threats in Quebec.The RCMP said it could not comment further on the alleged police stations, citing the ongoing probe. SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A California assemblyman introduced a new bill to set parameters for how and when law enforcement officers can use facial recognition technology in body cameras."Rather than have every agency come up with their own set of standards, every jurisdiction do their own thing, we’re really proud to do something statewide," said Assemblyman Phil Ting (D-San Francisco).Currently, there are no statewide restrictions on facial recognition technology, because Ting’s previous bill sunset in January of this year. Signed in 2019, the bill placed a three-year-ban on the technology.The ban faced stiff opposition from law enforcement groups."Across the country, real world examples of law enforcement using facial recognition technology to solve major crimes showcases just how important this technology can be towards protecting our communities," said San Leandro police Chief Abdul Pridgen.Pridgen is also a member of the California Police Chiefs Association. Ting and state Sen.

SAN FRANCISCO - A historic San Francisco home, featured in "The Princess Diaries," has hit the market for $8.9 million. The 100-year-old home is one of the most aesthetic in San Francisco, according to Steven Mavromihalis, the real-estate agent handling the listing.The 4,599-square-foot home was designed by famed architect August Headman in 1923.  It has become well-known, however, as the place where "Princess Diaries" character Mia Thermopolis, played by a young Anne Hathaway, attended a fictitious school in the 2001 film. The home, located at 2601 Lyon Street is at the intersection of San Francisco's Pacific Heights and Cow Hallow neighborhoods.

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia police officer who was shot in the line of duty in February remains in the hospital after experiencing complications. Two Delaware County men were charged in the shooting, including 45-year-old Eric Haynes, who was charged with two counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault of a law enforcement officer, and related charges. Authorities say Haynes was one of two passengers inside a car driven by Ernest Reed, 45, that was pulled over on the 200 block of North 60th Street on February 8. During the traffic stop, investigators believe Haynes tried to leave the scene and was stopped by Philadelphia Police Officer Giovanni Maysonet, officials say. According to police, Maysonet and Haynes got into a physical struggle. Haynes allegedly fired at least two shots that hit Maysonet in the chest of his bulletproof vest and an unprotected part of his abdomen.  Related Eric Haynes and Ernest Reed were both charged in the non-fatal shooting of Philadelphia Police Officer Giovanni Maysonet during a traffic stop.

This protest commenced at around 9 PM on Wednesday (8).This protest was organized against the arrest of Student Leader Kelum Mudannayake, and Student Activist Dilshan Harshana, and the students demanded their immediate release.Though tear gas and water cannons were used multiple times to disperse the protesting students, they continued to engage in the protest until midnight.One lane along the Colombo – Kandy main road was completely blocked due to the protest, disrupting the movement of traffic.

PHILADELPHIA - A mother and daughter are injured after police say they were shot inside a Holmesburg pizza shop Wednesday night. Just before 9 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating a shooting that they say left a man injured near a West Philadelphia elementary school Wednesday afternoon.Shortly before 4 p.m., police were called to the 1600 block of North 54th Street, right near Heston Elementary School, for reports of shooting. Upon arrival, responding officers say they found a 21-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the thigh.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office has announced charges against several police and public safety officers involved in sexual violence cases.In a Wednesday afternoon press conference, DAO officials detailed three cases.Pointing out similarities to the case of former Philadelphia detective Phillip Nordo, who was sentenced to 24.5 to 49 years in prison on rape, stalking and attempted sexual assault charges, District Attorney Larry Krasner called the allegations "very serious." He also urged individuals who may have information to come forward with details.Assistant District Attorney Lyandra Retacco released new information about a case against Howard Rubin, a former resource officer for the Philadelphia School District.Officials say Rubin was arrested in January 2021 and later sentenced to 10 - 20 years on charges relating to the sexual assault of minors.According to authorities, in 2010, Rubin was fired from a Philadelphia high school for inappropriate relations with students. Years later, he was separated from a charter school in the city for fraternizing with students.Rubin, who referred to himself as the "Philly Hip Hop Cop" on social media profiles, was well known at events where children would gather, Retacco said.The DAO's office says he often served as an armed security guard at many of the events and claimed to mentor city youth. Officials are asking anyone with information or who may have been a victim of Rubin's to come forward.

bobcat in southern Arizona found a comfy and warm place to rest – but it was inside someone's home – and in their dog's bed.The Arizona Game and Fish Department posted two photos of the bobcat on Twitter, saying it's suspected to have come in through an unlocked doggie door at a home in San Manuel, just outside of Tucson.The big cat was seen lounging on a fluffy dog bed surrounded by toys. By time help arrived, the bobcat was gone.The department warns to not handle entrapped or injured wildlife.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police say an attempted robbery took a turn when the victim took action and fought back.The 28-year-old man was on 27th and Cambria streets when he was approached by a man with a knife around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday.A physical fight broke out when the armed suspect demanded undisclosed items from the victim, according to authorities.MORE HEADLINES:The victim suffered a stab wound to the left arm, and was placed in stable condition at a local hospital.Police say the suspect fled the scene without any stolen items.No arrest has been made, and no weapon recovered.

PHILADELPHIA - A night in front of the television quickly escalated into a stabbing incident involving two men in Philadelphia's Tioga section, according to police.Officers responded to the 2100 block of West Tioga Street after a man was stabbed around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday.The victim, a 37-year-old man, suffered a stab wound to the head.

WEST WHITELAND TWP, Pa. - Authorities in Pennsylvania are searching for a group of credit card thieves who they say used distraction techniques to swipe wallets from unsuspecting shoppers at local stores and restaurants. Jasmine Greene, 33, is the only suspect authorities have been able to identify thus far. Greene, according to court records, out on bail for similar charges in Montgomery County.The West Whiteland Police Department shared surveillance video from inside a Whole Foods Market that they say shows two people reach into a woman's purse as she's scrolling on her phone.One suspect is seen looking at a menu, while the other suspect squats down directly behind the victim and rummages through her person.

PHILADELPHIA - A woman accused of shooting another woman several times in the bathroom of a Philadelphia bar has been taken into custody, according to police. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 4700 block of Rising Sun Avenue around 9 p.m. for reports of a shooting inside the bar. Witnesses told responding officers that they heard gunshots shortly after two women entered the bar's bathroom, and one woman exited the bathroom and left the bar. Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters that the shooting victim was driven to Temple University Hospital with three gunshot wounds and immediately taken to surgery. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESBar patrons provided police a description of the alleged shooter which helped officers find the 39-year-old suspect about two blocks away.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting that they say happened at the basketball courts inside a Mayfair park Monday night. Just after 6 p.m., police responded to Russo Playground, located on the 7300 block of Torresdale Avenue, for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a man who had been shot one time in the leg. The victim was transported to Jeanes Hospital where authorities say he was placed in stable condition. Authorities say no arrest was made, and no weapon was recovered. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department.
