An "outstanding" doctor has died after a lengthy battle with the coronavirus, drawing heartwarming tributes from across her local community.
Dr Poornima Nair worked at the Station View Medical Centre in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, with her family sharing the news of her death at the University Hospital of North Tees Hospital on Facebook yesterday.
The practice also posted a statement on its website which described the popular doctor as "much loved and valued", going on to say how she fought the killer bug "with her great strength of character". "We are all devastated and upset by this tragic news and hope you will join with us in our thoughts and prayers," it added.
