While most recent cases have involved young people, an increase has been reported in cases among the older and vulnerable age groups.
Last night, as 89 new cases were reported along with one death, acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronan Glynn said the trajectory of the disease is higher than where NPHET wants it to be.
Until yesterday, there had been no deaths linked to the virus for two weeks. Overnight figures show the number of confirmed cases in hospital is stable at 39.
