The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has said that immediate measures need to be taken by the HSE to make workplaces safe for staff given the transmissibility of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
The general secretary of the INMO Phil Ní Sheaghdha said that with overcrowding and a lack of ventilation in many hospital spaces, staff feel that their workplaces are not safe places to provide care in.
The INMO said that 2.9% of healthcare workers, or 269 people, became infected in the past fortnight with Covid-19. She told the News at One, on RTÉ Radio 1 today that her members "are not satisfied their employer has put in all measures to keep them safe in work".
