A jockey who headbutted a rival has been handed a six month ban. Luke Tarrant struck Larry Cassidy after the ninth race on Wednesday at Doomben Racecourse in Australia.
The incident is understood to have started with a verbal altercation by the scales, after they had finished seventh and eighth in a 1200m handicap.
Tarrant's helmet struck Cassidy on the nose, causing an injury. The stewards also deemed the confrontation a breach of the Covid-19 social distancing protocols currently in place at meetings in the country.
Tarrant pleaded guilty to misconduct under AR115(1)(a) and was given a six month ban. He is suspended with immediate effect until October 22.
