PROSECUTIONS before district courts in Dublin for breaking domestic violence laws are to be given priority hearing dates, a judge has said.
The vast majority of the city's district court cases have been getting "block adjournments" of three months as a result of the Covid-19 crisis.
Most defendants on bail have been excused from having to attend procedural proceedings now listed for mention only and to have new dates set later in the year.
This has resulted in delays for trials as well as sentencing and jurisdiction hearings. As a result of the pandemic, district court lists from Swords, Balbriggan, Dun Laoghaire, Tallaght and Blanchardstown have also been transferred into Dublin’s Criminal Courts of Justice building.
