A Labour MP has stepped down from her frontbench role after admitting to breaching coronavirus lockdown rules. Canterbury MP Rosie Duffield has quit as a Labour whip in the Commons after seeing her partner while they lived separately.
The engagement took place in April, when the rules said to not meet with anyone from another household. Ms Duffield last night apologised for meeting with TV director James Routh for a 'five-hour walk' and the MP did not deny that he visited her home, as revealed by the Mail on Sunday.
Ms Duffield told the Mail they stuck to the 2m social distancing rule during their meeting. In a statement, the 48-year-old said: "My partner and I have been attempting to navigate a difficult personal situation as responsibly
