Liverpool 's Champions League game against Atletico Madrid at Anfield 'led to 41 additional deaths' from coronavirus, according to a new analysis of NHS data.
3,000 Atletico fans made the trip to Merseyside on March 9 for the European match, despite concerns over the fact Madrid and Spain was already subject to some lockdown measures.
Many bars and restaurants had been shut in the country and La Liga announced that same day that no more games would take place in front of fans.
However, the game went ahead with the 3,000 travelling fans making up an attendance of around 54,000 and mingling with locals in the town centre.
