WAWONA, Calif. - A fast-moving brush fire near Yosemite National Park exploded in size Saturday into one of California’s largest wildfires of the year, prompting evacuation orders for thousands of people and shutting off power to more than 2,000 homes and businesses.The Oak Fire started Friday afternoon southwest of the park near the town of Midpines in Mariposa County and by Saturday had grown to nearly 19 square miles (48 square kilometers), according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire. OAKLAND, Calif. - The family and friends of the three immigrant men who drowned while rescuing a boy from the delta in Sacramento are hoping to send their bodies back to their native Guatemala.Wendy Rivas of Oakland started a GoFundMe for her father Edwin "Guistillo" Rivas, 57, and his friends, Edwin Perez, 22, and Danilo Gutiérrez, 40. ANTIOCH, Calif. - A small fire sparked by illegal fireworks threatened a home in Antioch. It was just one of dozens that Contra Costa County crews responded to over the weekend. Nei Trotter said she was injured in one of those fires."The smell was really bad," she said. "The smoke filled the house. 'Surveillance video of a fire that burned a bush near homes on Reseda Way. SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. - Two beaches on Long Island reopened for swimming on Monday after a shark attacked a lifeguard over the weekend. Lifeguards at the beaches at Smith Point County Park and Cupsogue Beach County Park started their shifts an hour early on Monday morning to scan the water for signs of sharks, Suffolk County spokesperson Nicole Russo said. The beaches reopened at 10 a.m. Lifeguards on paddle boards patrolled the shoreline.

Recreational marijuana use linked to increased chance of ER, hospitalization, study finds

Acute trauma, which is something that occurs due to a single event such as a car crash, was the most common cause at 15.1%, followed by respiratory health reasons (14.2%) and gastrointestinal issues (13.3%).The Canadian researchers linked national health survey and health records data for more than 35,000 residents of Ontario who were between the ages of 12 to 65, spanning the period between January 2009 and December 2015.
