Married At First Sight star Mel Schilling has made a plea to her followers to "listen to your body" as she urged people to get checked early amid her battle with bowel cancer.

The Australian relationship expert, who is known for both the original reality series and the UK spin-off, reflected on her appearance on today's This Morning, 16 January.

The star has been discussing her journey with the disease following her diagnosis, and is keen to share her knowledge with others who could be in the same boat.

Taking to her Instagram page after appearing on This Morning, Mel began: "Well … that was a very different @thismorning segment today. "Rather than offering advice to others, I had the opportunity to talk about my own experience - my bowel cancer journey." The star went on: "I think the key messages from our chat were: Listen to your body, if something feels wrong ask for help (Don’t gaslight yourself, you know your body better than anyone else). "If your bowel habits have changed ask your GP for a *Poo Test* (aka a FIT Test) it’s a quick, simple, painless test that will indicate any signs of bowel cancer." Mel then recommended her followers to live the "healthiest lifestyle you can", saying "prevention is better than a cure". "Thank you to the wonderful @josiegibson85 and @dermotoleary for being so kind & sensitive and to the incredible @drnighatarif for your medical knowledge & wisdom," the TV star added.
