DES MOINES, Iowa - Two Iowa officers are being credited for saving a man's life after they saw he was about to jump off a bridge. Their dashcam recorded their heroic efforts. Des Moines Police said earlier this month, officers Destiny McGinnis and Tim Morgan were patrolling when they saw an SUV pulled over with its flashing lights on the side of the road going over the bridge. The officers saw two men standing were outside the vehicle. "We thought they were arguing," McGinnis said in a video news release. RELATED: Heather Armstrong, mommy blogger known as Dooce, dies at 47As soon as the officers got out of their car, one of the men climbed over top of the bridge's railing. The second man grabbed the suicidal man's leg to try and pull him back over. A June 24-30 survey showed 25.5 percent of respondents aged 18-24 years had seriously considered suicide in the past month.The officers intervened and also grabbed the man to pull him back to safety. "I think his shoe fell into the river when I pulled him over," McGinnis added. The officers held the man down until medics arrived. The man told officers he was upset that his mother had died a year ago, and he wanted to end his life. "I wanted to cry," McGinnis continued.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife on Friday shows a black bear pulling on a door handle and opening the door of a pickup truck.The video opened with the bear sniffing along the driver’s side of the silver truck parked on the side of the road. Once the animal made its way from the back bumper to the cab, it stood up and placed its paws on the handle of the back door.The door popped open, and the bear pulled it back even more, to reveal a red-and-white cooler in the back seat of the truck.The bear pops open the door.

CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. - Emergency crews were called to battle a blaze that left several homes heavily damaged, and a firefighter injured in South Jersey this weekend.Flames grew to a 3-alarm fire at a condominium complex on Gregorys Way in Voorhees Saturday morning.Officials say all residents were able to self-evacuate their homes without any injuries as the fire spread to eight units in total.Footage from the scene showed severe damage to several condos with at least one roof appearing to collapse.MORE HEADLINES:One firefighter sustained a minor injury at the scene.

WestJet pilots might soon go on strike are looming over travellers who have tickets booked with the Calgary-based airline.The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), the union representing WestJet pilots, who are seeking better job protections, benefits and wages that will bring them in line with their North American counterparts, is set to declare on Saturday whether a work stoppage will start 72 hours later on May 16.Pilots representing both WestJet and its discount brand Swoop voted in favour of a strike mandate in April. PHILADELPHIA - Court documents reveal how investigators were able to tie a formerly incarcerated woman to the orchestrated escape of two Philadelphia inmates that sparked a citywide manhunt. Xianni Stalling, 21, was taken into custody Thursday in connection to the Sunday night escape of Ameen Hust, 18, and Nasir Grant, 24, from Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center. The inmates were absent for three headcounts in the hours following their escape, but prison officials say they were not aware Hurst and Grant were gone until late Monday afternoon. Sources told FOX 29 the inmates' cell doors and the door to a recreation yard were left unlocked, which allowed the duo to pass through undetected before escaping through a hole in a fence. From there, an affidavit claims Hurst and Grant were able to climb over two additional barbed wire fences and onto the 8300 block of State Road. The woman has been charged with criminal conspiracy, hindering apprehension, escape and use of a communication facility, according to Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner.Documents show that three hours before the escape, Hurst had a phone conversation with an unknown man during which he made arrangements to be picked up near a bridge behind the prison.Authorities believe that Xianni Stallings helped facilitate that conversation, and alluded to Hurst and Grant's escape during a video call with another prisoner a day later. During that conversation, court documents say Stallings appeared shocked that the unnamed inmate she spoke to hadn't heard about the prison break. "You had the opportunity to run from jail," Stallings is allegedly heard saying.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities have charged an inmate who they say helped two fellow inmates escape a Philadelphia prison last weekend, sparking a dayslong manhunt across the city. Jose Flores-Huerta, a 35-year-old who is currently incarcerated at Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center, was charged Thursday with Escape and Criminal Conspiracy. Flores-Huerta is incarcerated for a deadly group beating at Pat's King of Steaks in Sept. 2021 that claimed the life of 28-year-old Isidro Cortez. It's alleged that Flores-Huerta helped Nasir Grant, 24, and Ameen Hust, 18, free themselves from the prison last Sunday night through a hole in a perimeter fence. Prisons Commissioner Blanche Carney told reporters the duo missed three headcounts before prison guards realized they were missing Monday afternoon.One of the two inmates who escaped from a Philadelphia prison on Sunday was captured by U.S.

ESCONDIDO, Calif. - An 8-week-old kitten is on the mend after the tiny animal got its head stuck in the frame of a truck in California. The driver of the truck was on the road on Monday and heard "meowing sounds" at a stop sign, according to the San Diego Humane Society. Upon further inspection, the driver discovered the female kitten with its head stuck in a hole in the frame of the truck.RELATED: Watch: Police respond to calls for help, turns out to be 'very upset goat'The truck driver contacted the San Diego Humane Society, whose staff members sedated the kitten and worked to safely extract the animal. "After sedating the kitten, they patiently used Q-tips to dislodge her head and free her from the tight spot," the humane society said in a post on Facebook about the ordeal. The kitten was then taken to the humane society’s Escondido campus "for additional care, including pain medication, fluids, antibiotics and a good meal."The kitten is pictured in screengrabs from a video shared by the San Diego Humane Society of the rescue.

NEW YORK - Daniel Penny, the 24-year-old Marine veteran at the center of Jordan Neely's choking death aboard a subway train last week, has turned himself in to police to face a criminal charge over the incident.Neely, who was homeless, died back on May 1 after Penny allegedly held him in a chokehold for several minutes.According to witnesses, Neely was yelling at and harassing passengers on the train before he was subdued by Neely and others, and ultimately died.Manhattan prosecutors say they will bring criminal charges against a man who used a deadly chokehold on an unruly passenger aboard a New York City subway train.The Medical Examiner's office later ruled Neely's death a homicidecaused by compression on the neck.Penny faces a charge of second-degree manslaughter, which could carry a jail term of up to 15 years."Second-degree manslaughter means that they're charging him with having recklessly caused the death. Recklessly means that he was operating with a substantial and justifiable risk of causing death to another person," explained Andrew Cherkasky, a former federal prosecutor."I think that some people are going to be upset about this that it wasn’t more serious.

A new, small study suggests that certain soaps and scents may make one more or less attractive to the insects.  However, the effects vary between people – and each person’s unique human scent also plays a role, according to the researchers. The study, conducted by researchers at Virginia Tech and published on May 10 in the journal iScience, included four human volunteers whose chemical odors were studied both when unwashed, and after they had washed themselves with each of four brands of soap: Dial, Dove, Native, and Simple Truth. The team also analyzed the odor profiles of the soaps themselves.Soap-washing was found to impact the mosquitoes’ preferences, but this differed between soap types and the human volunteers.

PENNSYLVANIA - Two high schools in Pennsylvania closed their doors out of an abundance of caution and switched to remote learning on Friday due to threats, officials say. Students and staff at Pennsbury and Neshaminy high schools will be remote after both schools received threatening messages. An announcement posted on the Neshaminy High School website says the school received tips containing screenshots from social media alleging a threat against the school on Friday. Middletown Township Police launched an investigation to find the source of the threat, but school officials say the high school switched to remote learning out of an abundance of caution. This announcement posted to the Neshaminy High School website details information about a threat made against the school.  Officials at Pennsbury High School say the school also received a threat against the school for Friday. RELATED: State Police investigating series of 'false' threats made against schools across PennsylvaniaOfficers with the Falls Township Police Department were notified, and the department is investigating the source of the threat, according to a school announcement. Students are set to undergo asynchronous instruction.  This message announcing remote learning was posted on the Pennsbury High School website on May 12, 2023.

PHILADELPHIA - Homicide detectives in Philadelphia are investigating a shooting that left one man dead on Friday morning. According to authorities, the shooting erupted on the 800 block of Hutton Street in the city's Belmont section around 2:15 a.m. Chief Inspector Scott Small said police responded to the scene for reports of gunshots and found a 59-year-old man sitting in the driver's seat of a Chevy. Police say the man was unresponsive with gunshot wounds to his neck and chest. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe victim was transported to Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials say. According to investigators, the window of the vehicle was down when they arrived on scene. The victim lives several blocks away from the fatal shooting scene, police say. The investigation is active and ongoing.

Jacklyn Zeman, who played Bobbie Spencer for 45 years on ABC’s General Hospital, has died. She was 70.Zeman died after a short battle with cancer, her family confirmed Wednesday.

Police say the suspect in the stabbing deaths of a mother and child outside a school in Edmonton last week has died in hospital.The man was shot by police Friday after a 35-year-old woman and her 11-year-old child were stabbed outside Crawford Plains School in the southeastern part of the city.Police say an autopsy on the 33-year-old man is scheduled for Tuesday.They say investigators have determined he is the sole person responsible for the deaths of the mother and child.Family members identified them as Carolann Robillard and Sarah Miller, who had recently started using the first name Jayden.The suspect, who was known to police and had a record of assaulting children, was found by officers shortly after the attack.Police say he was shot after an altercation with officers and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating.They are not releasing the name of the suspect.

PHILADELPHIA - Three people, including two women, suffered non-fatal gunshot wounds Thursday night in Philadelphia's Frankford neighborhood. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 4800 block of Tackawana Street around 7:30 p.m. for reports of a shooting. A 56-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man were taken to Temple University Hospital with gunshot wounds to the lower body, police said. A 60-year-old woman showed up at Temple Hospital with gunshot wounds to both legs.

LOGAN - Philadelphia police report the shooting of four people, including the fatal shooting on one man and the wounding of a 7-year-old, in the city’s Logan neighborhood.Officials say the shooting happened on the 5900 block of North 21st Street, Thursday evening, just before 6 p.m.Police arrived to find a 7-year-old with a gunshot wound to the leg. GOODYEAR, Ariz. - A man convicted in a hit-and-run crash in Goodyear that left a teenage boy dead has been sentenced to prison.Richard Romo, 45, will spend nearly nine years behind bars after he hit and killed 13-year-old Dylan Buensuceco, who was riding his bike home from school near Estrella Parkway and Elliot Road on April 26, 2022.According to Goodyear Police, the crash happened near Estrella Parkway and Elliot Road around 2:45 p.m. Police say 13-year-old, Dylan Buensuceso, died.Romo was arrested days after the collision.Richard Romo "Many people came forward with camera footage.

NEWARK, Del. - A Georgia woman, accused of Cruelty to Animals by Newark, Delaware police, has turned herself in, while a dog in her care died from injuries sustained April 28.Syniah Percell, a 25-year-old Marietta, Georgia resident, turned herself into Newark Police May 9.According to officials, police were called to an apartment on the 100 block of Thorn Lane on the report of an injured dog.A resident left Percell in charge of the resident's Yorkshire Terrier while out of the apartment.When the ower returned home, the dog was "acting strange, walking oddly and had a bruise on its body," police say.MORE HEADLINES:The dog was then taken to a veterinarian and the vet found the dog suffering from severe injuries.During the police investigation, video was found that the friend left in charge, identified as Percell, abused the dog while in her control.The dog died from the injuries sustained.Percell turned herself in and faced a judge by video.

Jamie Foxx suffered a mysterious health scare one month ago and is reportedly still hospitalized in Atlanta. His daughter, Corinne Foxx, revealed April 12 in a since-deleted Instagram post that Foxx experienced a "medical complication" the day before, and "quick action and great care" helped guide him toward recovery.  The family has not disclosed Foxx's medical issue.
