CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - A stroll along the Texas coastline may provide you with sights of sargassum seaweed, but on rare occasions, beachgoers have stumbled upon cargo from a World War II-era shipwreck that continues to occasionally float ashore.Visitors at Mustang Island State Park, outside of Corpus Christi, Texas, are the latest to discover one of the unassuming bales that were washed ashore by the currents of the Gulf of Mexico.A park ranger took to the site’s social media to show off the discovery and to point out that there is always the chance of something more substantial than a seashell or a patch of seaweed on the sand.According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, it is running off the assumption the bale is tied to similar discoveries over the years across the Gulf Coast as well as Central and South America.March 30, 2022: A mass of rubber washed ashore South Texas (Padre Island National Seashore / FOX Weather) Jace Tunnell, a reserve director at the University of Texas’s Marine Science Institute, has studied several of these sightings and previously tied occurrences to an old shipwreck off of Brazil."These are folded rubber mats that have been put together and then wrapped again with a big one. And so, these are actually thought to be from a 1944 ship," Tunnel previously stated in a video for the Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve.

SAN FRANCISCO - The security guard who shot and killed alleged shoplifter Banko Brown outside a Walgreens in San Francisco will not be prosecuted, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins told KTVU in a one-on-one interview on Monday. "We do not believe there is sufficient evidence to overcome what we would expect his defense of self-defense to be," Jenkins said. "[Anthony] has specifically articulated to the police, more than once, the facts surrounding the incident and explained that he believed he was in imminent danger, and at this time we don’t believe there is anything to overcome those statements." Michael Earl-Wayne Anthony, 33, was working as a security guard for the Walgreens at 4th and Market Streets in San Francisco, when he shot and killed Brown, 24, on April 27 during an altercation in which Brown was allegedly shoplifting. In a surveillance video obtained by KTVU, Anthony can be seen trying to stop Brown as he tries to leave Walgreens with a bag of items. The video shows Anthony trying to stop Brown from exiting the store with a blue bag filled with items, and Brown pushing Anthony's shoulder first. Anthony then shoves back, the video shows, and the two began to physically struggle. The pair began to wrestle and Anthony brings Brown to the ground and applies what looks like a choke hold while on Brown's back, the video shows.

FARMINGTON, N.M. - At least three people were dead and multiple others wounded Monday after a shooting in Farmington, New Mexico, police said, and schools citywide were put on lockdown."There are multiple civilian victims," Farmington police reported via Facebook, adding that one suspect "was confronted and killed on scene."Two officers were shot including a member of the city police and one with the New Mexico State Police, the message said. Both were reported to be in stable condition at San Juan Regional Medical Center."The suspect’s identity is unknown and there are no other known threats at this time," police said, adding that city, San Juan County and state police were involved.The shooting was reported shortly after 11 a.m.

PHILADELPHIA - One man's actions thwarted what would have been his own daytime carjacking on the streets of Chinatown earlier this month.Police say two teen suspects followed the victim after he parked his car on the 1000 block of Race Street on May 7.They snatched his keys, ran back to his car and attempted to drive off in it, according to authorities.However, police say the victim pulled one of the suspects from his car and took back his keys after a brief struggle.MORE HEADLINES:The suspects then fled in an unknown direction.

WEST PHILADELPHIA - A 46-year-old man is dead after he was shot multiple times on a West Philadelphia street.16th Philadelphia Police District officers responded to the 4800 block of Wallace Street Saturday night, around 10:15, on the report of a person with a weapon, according to authorities.When they arrived, they discovered the victim on the street. He was shot in the back and abdomen several times.Police rushed him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he died.Officials say no arrests have been made, but a weapon was found.

Leslie (Rescue One) SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - A 3-month-old dog rescued by law enforcement in Missouri arrived at a shelter shaved with swastikas and expletives drawn on her.Rescue One, a nonprofit animal rescue and vet clinic in Springfield, said the swastikas were all over her body, along with a message on her back: "Don't feed this (explicit) dog." Swastikas have become synonymous with hate ever since Adolf Hitler and the Nazis wore them in Germany during World War II."She is heading for the tub to scrub-a-dub-dub all of this hate off. PHILADELPHIA - A shooting in West Philadelphia has left one woman injured and another wanted by police.Officers arrived to find a woman suffering a gunshot wound to the arm inside a home on the 800 block of South 56th Street around 2 a.m.

DES MOINES, Iowa - Two Iowa officers are being credited for saving a man's life after they saw he was about to jump off a bridge. Their dashcam recorded their heroic efforts. Des Moines Police said earlier this month, officers Destiny McGinnis and Tim Morgan were patrolling when they saw an SUV pulled over with its flashing lights on the side of the road going over the bridge. The officers saw two men standing were outside the vehicle. "We thought they were arguing," McGinnis said in a video news release. RELATED: Heather Armstrong, mommy blogger known as Dooce, dies at 47As soon as the officers got out of their car, one of the men climbed over top of the bridge's railing. The second man grabbed the suicidal man's leg to try and pull him back over. A June 24-30 survey showed 25.5 percent of respondents aged 18-24 years had seriously considered suicide in the past month.The officers intervened and also grabbed the man to pull him back to safety. "I think his shoe fell into the river when I pulled him over," McGinnis added. The officers held the man down until medics arrived. The man told officers he was upset that his mother had died a year ago, and he wanted to end his life. "I wanted to cry," McGinnis continued.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are asking for the public's help to find a 98-year-old woman they say has not been seen or spoken to in approximately two weeks.Celia Shilder, 98, was last seen by neighbors on the 800 block of Fairfield Street in Northeast Philadelphia.

CHESTER COUNTY, Pa. - It's been 10 days since a 20-year-old man was seen in Chester County, and now police say they are searching for the missing endangered person.A missing endangered person advisory was issued for Jonathan Peter, 20, after he was last spotted near New Hampshire Lane in West Bradford Township on May 3 around 10:15 p.m.On Saturday, Pennsylvania State Police posted an alert that they were conducting a search of the area with the Pennsylvania Wilderness Search and Rescue.They are asking the public to use caution due to more vehicle and pedestrian traffic.Peters is described as being 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair.

PHILADELPHIA - Court documents reveal how investigators were able to tie a formerly incarcerated woman to the orchestrated escape of two Philadelphia inmates that sparked a citywide manhunt. Xianni Stalling, 21, was taken into custody Thursday in connection to the Sunday night escape of Ameen Hust, 18, and Nasir Grant, 24, from Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center. The inmates were absent for three headcounts in the hours following their escape, but prison officials say they were not aware Hurst and Grant were gone until late Monday afternoon. Sources told FOX 29 the inmates' cell doors and the door to a recreation yard were left unlocked, which allowed the duo to pass through undetected before escaping through a hole in a fence. From there, an affidavit claims Hurst and Grant were able to climb over two additional barbed wire fences and onto the 8300 block of State Road. The woman has been charged with criminal conspiracy, hindering apprehension, escape and use of a communication facility, according to Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner.Documents show that three hours before the escape, Hurst had a phone conversation with an unknown man during which he made arrangements to be picked up near a bridge behind the prison.Authorities believe that Xianni Stallings helped facilitate that conversation, and alluded to Hurst and Grant's escape during a video call with another prisoner a day later. During that conversation, court documents say Stallings appeared shocked that the unnamed inmate she spoke to hadn't heard about the prison break. "You had the opportunity to run from jail," Stallings is allegedly heard saying.

CAMDEN - Authorities in Camden are searching for two young girls who they say were last seen leaving a local school on Friday. Emma Smith, 12, and Lianiece Torres, 13, were wearing their school uniforms when police say they left Mastery School on Vine Street. Smith is described as 5-feet-tall, 130 pounds with blue-green eyes and blonde hair.

POINT BREEZE - Three people have been shot in Point Breeze, including an 11-year-old girl.Officials said the shooting happened Friday night, just before 8 p.m., on the 1900 block of South 23rd Street.Philadelphia police arrived to find the 11-year-old girl on the street suffering with a gunshot wound to her leg. Police rushed her to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities have charged an inmate who they say helped two fellow inmates escape a Philadelphia prison last weekend, sparking a dayslong manhunt across the city. Jose Flores-Huerta, a 35-year-old who is currently incarcerated at Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center, was charged Thursday with Escape and Criminal Conspiracy. Flores-Huerta is incarcerated for a deadly group beating at Pat's King of Steaks in Sept. 2021 that claimed the life of 28-year-old Isidro Cortez. It's alleged that Flores-Huerta helped Nasir Grant, 24, and Ameen Hust, 18, free themselves from the prison last Sunday night through a hole in a perimeter fence. Prisons Commissioner Blanche Carney told reporters the duo missed three headcounts before prison guards realized they were missing Monday afternoon.One of the two inmates who escaped from a Philadelphia prison on Sunday was captured by U.S.

NEWARK, Del. - A suspect accused of carjacking a woman outside a Delaware gym in the middle of the day has been arrested as the search for a second continues, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Officials say the carjacking took place on May 7 just before 3 p.m.

The Richland Township Police Department is searching for suspects seen in the images above, who are wanted in connection with the theft of multiple rifles from a home.  RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Investigators in Bucks County are searching for suspects who stole weapons from a home, police say. According to authorities, the incident occurred on March 18 in Richland Township. The Richland Township Police Department says the group of suspects broke into two homes on Union Road. In both burglaries, the suspects were captured on surveillance videos between the hours of 4 a.m.

NEW YORK - Daniel Penny, the 24-year-old Marine veteran at the center of Jordan Neely's choking death aboard a subway train last week, has turned himself in to police to face a criminal charge over the incident.Neely, who was homeless, died back on May 1 after Penny allegedly held him in a chokehold for several minutes.According to witnesses, Neely was yelling at and harassing passengers on the train before he was subdued by Neely and others, and ultimately died.Manhattan prosecutors say they will bring criminal charges against a man who used a deadly chokehold on an unruly passenger aboard a New York City subway train.The Medical Examiner's office later ruled Neely's death a homicidecaused by compression on the neck.Penny faces a charge of second-degree manslaughter, which could carry a jail term of up to 15 years."Second-degree manslaughter means that they're charging him with having recklessly caused the death. Recklessly means that he was operating with a substantial and justifiable risk of causing death to another person," explained Andrew Cherkasky, a former federal prosecutor."I think that some people are going to be upset about this that it wasn’t more serious.

PHILADELPHIA - Homicide detectives in Philadelphia are investigating a shooting that left one man dead on Friday morning. According to authorities, the shooting erupted on the 800 block of Hutton Street in the city's Belmont section around 2:15 a.m. Chief Inspector Scott Small said police responded to the scene for reports of gunshots and found a 59-year-old man sitting in the driver's seat of a Chevy. Police say the man was unresponsive with gunshot wounds to his neck and chest. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe victim was transported to Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials say. According to investigators, the window of the vehicle was down when they arrived on scene. The victim lives several blocks away from the fatal shooting scene, police say. The investigation is active and ongoing.

Jacklyn Zeman, who played Bobbie Spencer for 45 years on ABC’s General Hospital, has died. She was 70.Zeman died after a short battle with cancer, her family confirmed Wednesday.

Police say the suspect in the stabbing deaths of a mother and child outside a school in Edmonton last week has died in hospital.The man was shot by police Friday after a 35-year-old woman and her 11-year-old child were stabbed outside Crawford Plains School in the southeastern part of the city.Police say an autopsy on the 33-year-old man is scheduled for Tuesday.They say investigators have determined he is the sole person responsible for the deaths of the mother and child.Family members identified them as Carolann Robillard and Sarah Miller, who had recently started using the first name Jayden.The suspect, who was known to police and had a record of assaulting children, was found by officers shortly after the attack.Police say he was shot after an altercation with officers and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating.They are not releasing the name of the suspect.
