Mexican authorities say they have made an arrest in the killing of a Quebec man earlier this month in the Pacific coast beach town of Puerto Escondido.

The Oaxaca state attorney general issued a statement on Friday saying an arrest warrant was executed for a man in Puerto Escondido identified only by his initials in connection with the homicide of Victor Masson.

The statement did not outline any specific charges and said that a judge would decide next steps for the accused. Prosecutors said Masson was found dead in his car on May 15 in a neighbourhood where few tourists stay.

A few days after the slaying, authorities said in another statement that Masson’s killing stemmed from an altercation with people he had met the previous night over an unpaid bar tab at a local establishment.

Edmonton man Michael White, convicted of killing pregnant wife, gets full parole
Parole Board of Canada granted Michael White full parole in late May.“Given your assessed low risk, employment stability and your demonstrated abilities to live a law-abiding lifestyle the board does not find that your risk would be undue on an expanded form of conditional release,” the board said in a written decision.“Therefore, full parole is granted.”White was convicted in 2006 of second-degree murder and offering an indignity to a dead body in the death of his wife.Liana White was four months pregnant with the couple’s second child when she was fatally stabbed in July 2005.She was reported missing after her SUV was discovered in a park near the White home in northwest Edmonton. In the days that followed, White held a high-profile news conference outside the family’s home on Warwick Crescent in the Dunluce neighbourhood and organized searches for her body.It was during one of those searches that White and Liana’s mother found her badly decomposed body in a ditch near St. Albert. The parole board noted that Michael White had disposed of his wife’s body and “cleaned up” evidence from his crime.During his trial, police tesified officers who had been following White saw him retrieve two garbage bags from an area on the city’s outskirts two days after his wife’s disappearance; he later putting them out for garbage pickup.Investigators instead collected the bags and found they contained clothing, paper towels and latex gloves that had Liana White’s blood on them, as well as a broken lamp and other items.

43 WWII veterans honored with free trip to Normandy for D-Day anniversary
World War II veterans are spending time in Normandy this year in honor of commemorating the 79th anniversary of D-Day. Forty-three American veterans were once again flown on a special Delta charter flight ahead of the historic day thanks to Best Defense Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission is to help veterans and their families. The once-in-a-lifetime trip is free for the group of 43 veterans, who live all around the country, and includes well-trained, personal caretakers for the week-long program. The trip kicked off last week on May 30 with a special tribute dinner before everyone met at the Atlanta airport the next day.Scenes from the Delta Normandy sendoff at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. (Matthew Grimes/RANK STUDIOS for Delta Airlines) Delta employees decked out in red, white, and blue met the veterans before security – and what waited on the other side was something that called for the attention of the whole terminal. Music began to fill the halls, the patriotic sounds coming from a local marching band from Dutchtown High School. The veterans were then joined with an honor guard, the marching band, drum line, and foundation volunteers for a parade line down to their gate. "As the veterans rolled closer to their gate, French citizens ran up in tears, thanking them for their service," Best Defense Foundation said. And before boarding, many of the veterans spent time at a gate event to say hello to fellow Americans and grateful travelers.RELATED: WWII veterans return to Utah beach to honor D-Day on 79th anniversaryUpon arrival at Normandie-Deauville Airport (DOL), the veterans were greeted by Normandy residents, members of the U.S.

Zoey, a labrador/German shepherd mix, from Metairie, Louisiana, has earned the new record for world’s longest tongue. (Credit: Guinness World Records) METAIRIE, La. - A dog in Louisiana has earned the new distinction of having the world’s longest tongue, measuring a whopping 5 inches long. Zoey, a labrador/German shepherd mix, from the greater New Orleans area, officially claimed the record for longest tongue on a living dog, according to the Guinness World Records – which noted how the pup’s tongue is longer than a soda can. Bisbee, an English Setter from Tucson, Arizona, previously held the record at 3.74 inches in length.RELATED: ‘Positively regal’ dog rescued after scaling England’s tallest mountainZoey’s owners, Sadie and Drew Williams, thought she would grow into her tongue, but as time went on, people began to comment on how long it was, according to GWR."We got Zoey when she was only six weeks old and in the first ever picture we have of her, she has her tongue sticking out," Sadie Williams told the organization. Her owners added how the tongue length is most obvious after playing outside and panting. "It would be slobbering all over the place," Drew Williams added. The average avocado weighs about 6 ounces, according to Guinness officials.Last year, the couple took Zoey to the veterinarian it measured, from the tip of her snout to the tip of her tongue.Zoey’s owners said some of the dog’s favorite activities include being outside, fetching balls, chasing squirrels, car rides, and swimming in the canal. "She will pretty much go fetch anything you throw and swim in any body of water that’s available," Drew Williams told GWR.
