Emergency 'field hospitals' to tackle the explosion in coronavirus patients could open across the UK, the government has indicated.
The wave of extra capacity will begin next week at London's ExCel centre, where 500 out of 4,000 beds at "NHS Nightingale" will open in the vast exhibition hall in the docks.
There are reports the huge convention centres in Birmingham, Manchester and other cities could be converted into field hospitals too.
Today Downing Street confirmed military planners are set up in teams across the country and did not rule the option out. The Prime Minister's official spokesman said: "The current focus is on getting the ExCel centre up and running as the NHS Nightingale Hospital. "But NHS England is actively preparing for a
