The death toll from coronavirus in Britain has risen by 980 to 8,958 people, British health secretary Matt Hancock has revealed.
Mr Hancock said 19,116 coronavirus tests were carried out across the UK yesterday, of which 5,706 came back positive. He said the number of people in hospital who have tested positive for the disease stood at 19,304, of which 8,958 had died - an increase of 980 on the day before.
These figures refer to all those who died in a hospital setting only. Mr Hancock issued another warning to the British public to "stay at home" over the Easter weekend. "However warm the weather, however tempting your local beach or park, we need everyone to stay at home. "NHS staff are battling day and night to keep desperately sick
