Musicians Earned $4.3 Million From Bandcamp on Friday

On March 20, Bandcamp waived its revenue shares for a full 24 hours in an effort to help artists whose livelihoods have been impacted by coronavirus.

Several companies followed suit, directing all revenue directly to artists on Friday. It ended up being the biggest sales day in Bandcamp’s history—$4.3 million was spent on music that day, the company announced.

The money came from the purchase of roughly 800,000 items. “That’s more than 15 times our normal Friday, and at the peak, fans were buying 11 items per second,” Bandcamp wrote.
