THE wages of more than 50,000 workers in North Lanarkshire have been supported by the UK Government during Covid-19.Businesses in Lanarkshire as a whole have furloughed 81,000 jobs since the coronavirus job retention scheme (CJRS) was launched in March.The self-employment income support scheme (SEISS), rolled out last month, has financially assisted 17,400 self-employed Lanarkshire residents – and paid grants worth £50.4 million in the region.A total of 41,800 people have been furloughed and 8500 SEISS claims made in North Lanarkshire.This compares with 39,200 furloughed residents and 8900 SEISS claims in neighbouring South Lanarkshire.The CJRS and SEISS were announced by the Chancellor and are run by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) as part.
