Nottingham remains the worst hit area for new coronavirus infections in England despite avoiding the most stringent measures to help curb the spread of the virus.

Boris Johnson yesterday announced his new three tier coronavirus alert system which will effectively plunge Liverpool into a second lockdown with pubs and other businesses closed.

Nottingham continues to record cases above the Liverpool area and now has 2,931 new cases recorded in the seven days to October 10 - the equivalent of 880.4 cases per 100,000 people.

This is a big jump from 510.7 cases per 100,000 in the seven days to October 3. Knowsley has the second highest rate, which has climbed from 562.8 to 667.5, with 1,007 new cases.
