A veteran NHS nurse with suspected coronavirus died alone in his flat after desperate calls to the 111 helpline went unanswered, his heartbroken niece claims.

Police discovered the body of chemotherapy nurse Donald "Dondee" Suelto, 51, after concerns were raised for his welfare - but his remains were lost and it took his family six days to find him in a morgue.

The Filipino medic, who worked at Hammersmith hospital in west London, had been in quarantine with suspected Covid-19 symptoms.

His devastated family believe he caught it from an infected patient he was treating while working without personal protective equipment (PPE) - and they say he should have been given gear to keep him safe.
