Oldham's empty leisure centre is being used to store stock for the borough's food bank during the coronavirus crisis. The government-mandated lockdown has seen swimming pools and gyms across the UK shut down, but bosses are finding new ways to utilise their facilities to support people.

Oldham Community Leisure (OCL) initially donated all the food from its vending machines to the local foodbank. But as the pandemic ramped up, chiefs made the decision to transform the leisure centre on Middleton Road into a distribution centre for Oldham Foodbank, with supplies piled up in its sports hall.

Members of the team at OCL have also helped to set up a new foodbank hub at Clemency House - the old Glodwick pool - and helped to organise collections
