Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said that 1,570 tested positive for coronavirus yesterday - the lowest daily total since March 25.

Mr Hancock said 39,045 people had died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK as of 5pm on Sunday.

The figure was up by 556 from the 38,489 deaths announced on Sunday but Mr Hancock said the figures had increased by only 111.

The Department of Health has yet to explain the discrepancy. But in the 24-hour period up to 9am on Monday, 128,437 tests were carried out or dispatched with 1,570 positive results.
