Matt Hancock burst into laughter at the suggestion the NHS Test and Trace regime was rushed in as a smokescreen for Dominic Cummings.
The Health Secretary told Sky News' Kay Burley the suggestion was "priceless". Labour's Rosena Allin-Khan said Mr Hancock's reaction was an "insult" to the 37,000 people who have died of Covid-19 - saying the need for a working test and trace system is "not a joke".
NHS Test and Trace will officially launch across England today with the help of 25,000 contact tracers, although an accompanying app is still delayed by several weeks.
But today NHS Providers chief executive Chris Hopson warned "very key bits" of the Government's test and trace strategy are not yet in place.
