Nicola Sturgeon has announced that over 80,000 unpaid carers in Scotland are set to receive an extra one-off payment in June to support them through the coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, the Scottish Government published new legislation aimed at helping people left struggling due to the Covid-19 crisis - the second Bill to be introduced in the Scottish Parliament in response to the outbreak.

As part of a range of measures, the Bill sets out to give a cash boost to unpaid carers, proposing some 83,000 Scots in receipt of Carer's Allowance receive an additional payment of £230.10 next month - with ministers providing £19.2 million for this.
