This month 99-year-old war hero Captain Tom Moore has raised an extraordinary amount of money for the NHS. By simply walking up and down his garden in Bedfordshire, he has inspired thousands of people to donate more than £14million to help the health service fight the coronavirus pandemic.
It started as a simple plan between him and his daughter. He promised to walk 100 lengths by his 100th birthday at the end of April, and aim to raise £1,000.
His story has gone around the world, and his initial four-figure target has been obliterated with more than 700,000 people donating.
