In 1994, aged 29, he was appointed editor of the News of the World by Rupert Murdoch, which made him the youngest editor of a British national newspaper in more than half a century.

Piers Morgan has been forced to reassure Good Morning Britain viewers after they worried about his persistent "cough". Fans took to Twitter to voice their concerns about the TV presenter, 55, after they said he'd been coughing his way through Tuesday's episode.

But Piers said he'd simply been clearing his throat after not getting much sleep the night before. This morning he had been discussing the news that Prime Minister Boris Johnson is in intensive care after his coronavirus symptoms took a turn for the worse last night.
