The Cabinet is considering keeping second level schools open from Monday for Leaving Certificate students only, so that they can attend three days a week.
The Cabinet is meeting this afternoon to sign-off on a range of urgent measures, including the closure of schools. RTÉ News understands that Minister for Education Norma Foley is arguing for the option of allowing Leaving Certificate students to continue to attend for three days weekly.
It is understood that the Department of Education has been working on the logistics of how this might work in practical terms.
If agreed, it would mean that Leaving Certificate students return to school on Monday, while others remain at home. This year's Leaving Certificate students have already missed out
