Ex-boxer Ricky Hatton has admitted he did not care if he “lived or died” after his career was over. The former world champion says he would sit on the settee alone crying or go to the boozer for drug-fuelled drinking sessions.
Speaking as part of a mental health campaign for next year’s Rugby League World Cup, he said: “I didn’t care if I lived or died.
What did I have to live for? I was going to the pub drinking myself to death. I started taking drugs so it would keep me awake so I could keep drinking.” But the 41-year-old, who struggled following his 2009 defeat to fellow legend Manny Pacquiao, 41, started his road to redemption when his second child Millie was on the way.
