Rio Ferdinand has come out in defence of Neal Maupay after the Brighton striker’s controversial challenge forced Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno off on a stretcher.
Brighton snatched a late 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Amex Stadium this afternoon in their first Premier League outing since the coronavirus pandemic.
And the Gunners, who were playing their second game in four days after returning to action away at Manchester City on Wednesday, were dealt a major blow when Leno was stretchered off in the first half.
As he came out to collect a loose ball in the box, the German goalkeeper collided with Maupay and landed awkwardly in scenes so gruesome they were not replayed on BT Sport.Maupay has received plenty of criticism over the challenge,.
